Volcano Baru which is also known as Volcan Barú is the highest and tallest mountain in Chiriqui of Panama. The road is very steep to the top of the volcano. There are rock faces covered with graffiti, with a magnificent view of this place. It is about a height of 3,474 meters (11,398 ft) above sea level and is a dormant volcano. It is to the south of the Continental Divide which is in the western Chiriquí Province. The area is very fertile and served by the Chiriquí and Caldera rivers. Cerro Punta is to its west and Boquete to its east. In about 500 AD, this volcano had a major eruption and in 1550 AD, a minor eruption took place. From the top of this volcano, one can see both the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea. The minimal temperature on this volcano can be below 0°C (32°F) and hence frost formation is frequent even in the dry season.
This region is also known as the Baru Volcano National Park and is the core of the reserve. This volcanic core is the highest mountain of Panama which is known as the Baru Volcano. At dawn, one can have the best of the views, and it is foggy most of the time otherwise. The common hike road is from Bouquet which is up the 4×4 road. One can see many birds in this forest. This is also considered the highest point in the Republic of Panama. This not a tropical forest because of its altitude. There are plenty of birds to see and it has the characteristics of a cloud forest. The timber line is close to the summit.

French Guiana is located in the Amazon region of South America; is a French department and hence the name, French Guiana. This region is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean; lying between Brazil and Suriname. To the east lies Brazil and to the west Suriname. French Guiana is an overseas region of France. It has a land area of about 83,534 km² and a population of approximately 229,000. Its capital is Cayenne and its currency is Euro.
Earlier there were three sub colonies of French Guiana and they are from west to east: British Guiana (now Guyana), Dutch Guiana (now Suriname) and French Guiana.
The two main geographical regions of French Guiana are the coastal strip and the rainforest. The Tumac-Humac Mountains lie in the rainforest, and the highest peak of this region is Bellevue de l’Inini (at a height of 851 m). Among other mountains are Mont Machalou (782 m), Pic Coudreau (711 m), Mont St Marcel (635 m), Mont Favard (200 m) and Montagne du Mahury(156 m). There are three Iles du Salut Salvation Islands including the Devil’s Island and the isolated Iles du Connétable which is a bird sanctuary located further towards Brazil. There is a dam in the north of the region that has created an artificial lake called the Barrage de Petit-Saut (built for providing hydroelectricity). One of the nine national parks of France is the Guiana Amazonian Park which is actually spread over 33,900 square kilometres (13,090 sq mi).
