Sun City is a luxury casino and resort which is located in the North West Province of South Africa. Read the first part of this article here (Information about Sun City – Part 1)

Overview of Sun City

• The geographic location of Sun City is located between Elands River and Pilanesberg and is approximately 2 hrs from Johannesburg by car.
• The complex borders the Pilanesberg Game Reserve.
• Sol Kerzner developed Sun City and it is part of the Sun International group.
• It was officially opened on 7 December 1979.

Kamp Kwena Fort
• It is located on the lawns of The Cabanas Hotel, Kamp Kwena.
• It offers a supervised environment for children.
• Kamp Kwena runs daily programmes.
• These include outings for small children over holidays.

Kamp Kwena activities include

• Mini train rides
• Sandcastle building
• Bumper boats
• Trampolining
• Mini cars

Thula Baba
• Thula Baba offers a professional babysitting service.
• It hosts supervised outings for children during the day or night.

Finders Keepers
• It is situated adjacent to Kamp Kwena at Sun City.
• Finders Keepers scratch-patch: Visitors can go to a large sandpit and dig for their prizes.

Animal World and Aviary
• There are a number of large birds, birds of prey, and different farm animals.
• Feeding time is at 11:00 daily.
• Children get the thrill of petting the farm animals.
• There is also the bird aviary.
• It houses a variety of exotic bird species that can be seen close.

Club Chirp
• Club Chirp is located on the upper level of the Entertainment Centre.
• It is a strictly under 18’s only night club, being more suitable for those who are smaller than 17 and bigger than 13.
• The club is open on holidays – during weekends and in the holiday season.

Games Arcade
• It is a fun area for adults and children alike.
• This games arcade located within the Entertainment Centre.
• There are wide ranges of arcade games are on offer.
• If enough tickets are collected, you can get prizes.

Safari Activities
Sun City is located close to 2 of South Africa’s largest safari reserves and they are:
• The Pilanesburg Game Reserve
• Madikwe Game Reserve

Sun City Safari – Madikwe Game Reserve
• This safari is one hour and a half from Sun City.
• Madikwe Private Game Reserve is becoming a firm favorite safari destination.
• It is a 75 000 hectares area reserve.
• They are are populated with a wide variety of species.
• It includes the Big 5.
• They are cheetah, hyena, giraffe, hippo and various antelope.

Sun City Safaris – Pilansberg Game Reserve
• It is located adjacent to Sun City.
• This is the Pilanesberg Game Reserve.
• It is one of South Africa’s biggest reserves.
• It is home to the full Big 5 contingent.
• There are other species ranging from hippo to giraffe and hyena.
• The reserve encompasses a variety of differing habitats.
• The wildlife is plentiful and also varied.

The Jungle Casino in the Entertainment Center:

• Temperatures range from a low of 17° to a high of 31 °C in the summer.
• Temperatures range from a low of 3° to a high temperature of 21 °C in the winter.
• Annual rainfall totals about 360 mm (about 14 in).
• Almost all of it falls during the summer months.
• Summer months are between October and April.

How to get there?

• There are no direct flights to Sun City so visitors first need to fly to Johannesburg and from there, use a road route to get to Sun City. Visitors can take a bus or hop onto a Sun City transfer or rent a vehicle.
• The Sun City resort is only two and a half hours outside Johannesburg.
• Visitors can get buses from either Pretoria or Johannesburg.
• The easiest way to get to Sun City from Johannesburg is through Sun City transfers where all you have to do is to sit back and enjoy the trip.

To reach northwest
By car
• The N12 highway runs from Kimberley trough the eastern part of the province (Klerksdorp, Potchefstroom) to Johannesburg.
• The N14 from Upington joins the N12 in Wolmaranstaad.
• The N4 runs through the north of the province.
• It comes from Gaborone in Botswana, goes through Zeerust and Rustenburg and from there to the north of Pretoria.

By plane
• The airport of Pilanesberg/Sun City offers flights to Johannesburg.
• The capital city of Mmabatho/Mafikeng has regular flights operated by South African Airways to Johannesburg.

By bus
Greyhound and Translux offer bus connections from other provinces.
