Bhabha Pass Trek – Incredible insight into remote Spiti, Pin valleys and Kinnaur of Himachal Pradesh.

Bhabha Pass Trek is known for lush green flower strewn meadows, picturesque and dense forests. This trek offers an incredible insight into the remote Spiti, Pin valleys and Kinnaur of Himachal Pradesh. The path for bhaba pass trek passes through a mixed forest of conifers as well as crop fields of Mastrang.
The trek starts from the lush green Kullu valley, entire the starkely beautiful Spiti valley, visiting ancient gompas and scattered little villages. After crossing the Bhaba pass, the landscape changes dramatically.

The barren lunarscape of Spiti being replaced by the thick forest of Pine, cedar and deodar. Pilgrimage of kinner Kailash is introducing with the culture and religion of Hindu and Buddhist religion of semi deserted district of Kinnaur.
The route starts up from Thangi the left bank of Satluj over Charang pass to the Baspa valley. This trip is an exploration of Bouthist country of Spiti and Piligrimage around Kinner Kailash, forbidden land of Kinnaur. The duration of the trek is 3 days.

General Itinerary of this Trek

• This trek takes you from the green forests and pastures on the banks of the Wanger River to the dry high altitude deserts of Spiti.
• The trail leaves from the holiday town of Shimla and follows the ancient trade route over Bhaba Pass (15,900 ft) to Mudh village in Spiti Valley.

1. Trek (Bhaba Pass 4910mtrs) Kinnaur Valley to Spiti Valley
Kafnoo – Muling (5-6hrs)
• After breakfast the trek starts through a Village and Forest.
• After a few hours of steep climb the path gradually ascends to the campsite, a lush green meadow on the banks of the River Bhaba.
• Overnight at Camp.

2. Kara –Kara- Pustring (7-8hrs)
• After breakfast we start to the base of Bhaba Pass.
• The trek today involves many activities like river crossing, simple walks and a gradual ascent.
• Overnight at camp.

3. Pustring – Bolder (6-7hrs)
• Today the first three hrs is a steep climb to the top of the Bhaba Pass at an altitude of approximately 4,865mts.
• After reaching this height the trek continues to enter into the Spiti Valley.
• Overnight camp at Bolder / camps.

4. Bolder – Mud- Kungri – Tabo (4-5 hrs)
• Trek continues towards Mudh.
• After 5 hours trek touches the first Spiti village Mud having nearly forty families.
• Start driving towards the 1012yrs old monestary Tabo.
• Overnight stay in Tabo.
• Trek Ends.

Route of the Trek

• This trek combines the green of the Kinnaur region with the stark desolateness of the Spiti valley.
• The trek begins at Kafnoo in Kinnaur and crosses over the Pin Bhaba pass at 4865 meters.
• The trail ascends along the left bank of the Wangar River after crossing a footbridge.
• The path climbs through single crop fields of Mastrang and passes through a mixed forest of conifers and temperate broad-leafed species.
• The trail climbs through little clearings of potato and buckwheat till it reaches the meadows of Mulling (3350 meters).
• This is fringed by birch and birdcherry, leaving the Wangar River far below.
• From here the trail continues to Pistrang, a sheltered glade.
• The descent is more gradual to the Pin valley, over boulder-strewn glaciers.
• This trek is combined with a drive through Spiti and its many important monasteries and quaint villages.
• This will give an experience only the valleys of Kinnaur and Spiti can provide.

How to get there?

1. By Road
• Reckong Peo, the District Headquarters of Kinnaur is 235 Kms. from Shimla.
• National Highways -22 is the most convenient network to Kinnaur.
• Jeep and taxies are the best way to go to Kinnaur.
• Take one way taxis to Kalpa or Reckong Peo and hire other taxis locally as and when needed.
• Buses ply regularly, except in winter and early spring.
• Himachal Pradesh Transport Corporation runs a number of buses to different parts of Kinnaur.
• One direct service from Shimla to Kaza plying on the Satluj valley route takes 24 hours.
• In Kinnaur, at least four bus routes connect Reckong Peo with Shimla every day and other services go to Nichar, Sangla and Pooh.

2. By Air
• There is no direct flight to Kinnaur.
• The nearest Airport is Shimla which can be reached from Delhi.

3. By Rail
• There is no rail service to Kinnaur.
• The nearest Railway Station at Shimla is connected by a narrow gauge line from Kalka (96Km).
